Bristol Photo Festival joined photographer and filmmaker Esther May Campbell‘s workshops (developed from Kitchen Table Photo Club and Scrap Book), commissioning a special Halloween session with a group of kids in the forest.
The workshops follow Esther’s long term interest to engage with kids and to use photography to explore ideas of wilderness, folklore stories and the journey from childhood to adulthood. The purpose of the workshops was to use photography to construct and imagine new worlds, encouraging the kids to think about the invisible.
Photography is not the only creative medium used, kids were also invited to perform for the camera, share stories, create sculptures, sound recordings, and more importantly, they were given time to have fun and play in the woods.
The workshop ran from the afternoon to the evening, so that participants could experience the light transformation in the forest after dusk.
Due to the new lockdown restrictions, we have had to postpone future workshops until further notice. We are very much looking forward to continuing this exploration where kids’ experimentation, play and storytelling comes to the forest.
